It was announced today that Benioff and Weiss, creators of the smash-hit, Emmy Award-winning television series Game of Thrones, will write and produce a new series of Star Wars films.
These new films will be separate from both the episodic Skywalker saga and the recently-announced trilogy being developed by Rian Johnson, writer-director of Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
Jon Favreau to Executive Produce and Write Live-Action Star Wars Series
Lucasfilm is excited to announce that Emmy-nominated producer and actor Jon Favreau has signed on to executive produce and write a live-action Star Wars series for Disney’s new direct-to-consumer platform.
The job listing, which is posted on the company's internal jobs board, calls for a lead online engineer to "lead a team to deliver online features for a Star Wars open-world project." The listing says the role will help "ensure designs will maintain high-traffic services for multi-platform games," suggesting the title will come to multiple systems.
“The rousing spy thriller will explore tales filled with espionage and daring missions to restore hope to a galaxy in the grip of a ruthless Empire. A release date for the series has not yet been announced.”
